A History of the People We Support (GIPSIL)

In Summer 2026 Studio12 and Leeds organisation GIPSIL teamed up to create the short film ‘The People We Support’, a 10 minute documentary featuring contributions from service users old and new and illustrating their journeys as care-experienced young people.

In this film the experiences of young people are depicted as vignettes centered around an object from their past that symbolises their journey. Each vignette was scripted and directed by the young person it focuses on, giving them the unique opportunity to gain experience in any and all aspects of filmmaking they desire. The result is depictions of medley of objects that all represent something different. That said, there are two things every scene has in common; the gratitude the young people have for their support workers and the strength of the community they’ve found in Leeds.

This film premiered at the 2026 Trauma Informed Film Festival at Hyde Park Picture House, Leeds.
